So the battery life sucks does it?!!
On full charge I played for an hour and was expecting(because of other reviews) to be on 60% power but So the battery life sucks does it?!! On full charge I played for an hour and was expecting(because of other reviews) to be on 60% power but no 95% power!!! 5% power for an hour!!! You do the math. The controls do take time to get used to, only because of the size of the stick. On the last 3 GTA holding down the 2 shoulder buttons would give you the camara angle from both sides and the rear, on this one you have to hold L & left, right or down on the stick!!!!!!!! The stick, which is controlling the vehicle!!!!!
PlayStation 2
WHAT A SHOCKER!!!! Think of it like this, you're driving to a crossroad, you want to look left so you hold L and move the stick to your left, you are then hit by a car from your right AAARG!! The poor control setup has ruined the game for me!!! BUT and it's a big but, a simple push of the start button brings up the menu with the map, brief, stats, CONTROLS, audio, display and the brand new multiplayer sections. Go to 'Controls' and change it from Control Setup 1 to Control Setup 2, now it's fixed, now it's the GTA I love. Now when driving to look left, hit L to look right, hit R to look behind you, hold both. Now you can do your drive-bys Tier2 Greek.

Simple as you like. Also in this section you can swap the stick with the D-pad (I use the stick because the D-pad is a bit stiff for me) With this setup the handbrake is moved from the R button to pressing X & Square which makes for amazing power slides around corners, and leaving your index finger for grip, for better control. This setup is key because setup one is useless. Right the graphics, they are quite stunning, let down only by the blur due to the frame rate being lower than the PS2. This only occurs when on foot or on a bike and is more noticeable when Tommy is wearing black.
The targeting system is fine and much improve on GTA 3 locking onto the nearest threat, NOT ONCE have I shot anyone by mistake in a heated shoot out. While holding down the Target button (R) and hitting down on the D-pad you get free aim which didn't feature in GTA 3. When in free aim mode holding down L slows down free aim giving you more control, ideal when using the stick.
It's only the camara that sets the targeting apart from VC or SA. If only there was another stick! Nobody here has mentioned the sound, it's almost perfect!!! Although the radio does sound slightly like it's being streamed from the internet, but that's only because of the compression that's needed to fit on this tiny, tiny disc!! Also two words CUSTOM TRACKS!!! Go to the Audio section and it says Custom Tracks: Unavailable? Go to www.rockstar.com and download the program that converts your CDs into Custom Tracks, and listen to your favourite songs as you do a drive-by!!!!
How cool is that!!!! So the only CONS of this game are: The bluring, the hard to control (on-foot) camara and (nothing to do with the game) the stick is hard to use on this game being very small, but you do get used to it. Once you get used to the controls and camara, you'll see What a fantastic game this is!!! To fit all of this on a disc that you could swallow is a miracle! The 7 multiplay levels(new to all GTA games) adds another dimension to the series.

Someone said has nobody noticed how sparse the islands are? Yeah, sparse when I've run everyone over!!!
Absolutely incredible! What they've managed to squeeze onto this tiny disc is awesome. When we played the GTA3 on the ps2 for the first Absolutely incredible! What they've managed to squeeze onto this tiny disc is awesome. When we played the GTA3 on the ps2 for the first time, who would of thought we'd get something like it on a handheld within a few years?!?

The controls system is flawed, there are collision & slow-down issues. But this should not distract from what is a remarkable achievement.
If you played 'GTA San Andreas' on PS2 and want a portable GTA that has the same game style, 'GTA Vice City Stories' might be the better If you played 'GTA San Andreas' on PS2 and want a portable GTA that has the same game style, 'GTA Vice City Stories' might be the better choice for you, since the free roaming is more satisfying with its design and the freedom is greater (i.e. Boats, helicopter, territorial fights, making business etc.).
Due to that lack 'GTA Liberty City Stories' feels like a sorta stiff, straight line story. Of course you can go on rampage and you get your typical mini games, but the whole product lacks charm. Even the ending was quick and unsatisfying.
If you know 'The Sopranos', some parts might remind you of that show, since it's very obvious. I haven't seen 'The Sopranos' back then, but in hindsight it does not affect the game. It's just a homage. Usually GTA's radio stations are great, but GTA LCS's rather annoyed me.
Of course that's just my opinion, but gladly you can use your own music from your memory card, which improved the game. What I gather from these reviews is that the controls are bad (this I agree with) and it's still the best PSP game (this I disagree What I gather from these reviews is that the controls are bad (this I agree with) and it's still the best PSP game (this I disagree with, Coded Arms is the best). I suggest you play a demo or even rent this game first. The media has been overrating this series for a long time. This time, I think, they went too far. Most of the good reviews from fans are probably from one or two people (they do come in groups), who bought the PSP just for this game.
It's easy to convince yourself when you really want to.
Once a trusted wise guy in the Leone crime family, Toni Cipriani was forced into hiding after killing a made man. Now he's back and it's time for things to be put right. Deranged hitmen, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and his own mother stand in his way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone control. GTA on PSP. An astounding technical achievement that pushes the PSP to its limits. A massive non linear storyline penned by Rockstar's award winning writing team.
Explosive Wireless multiplayer for up to six players. If you've ever played a Grand Theft Auto game before - and the chances of that are pretty high, seeing as it's consistently the best selling and most critically acclaimed franchise on PlayStation 2 - then GTA: LCS is going to seem pretty familiar. It's going to seem even more familiar if you've played GTA: LCS on the PlayStation Portable, as this is a direct conversion of the game that set new standards for handheld gaming and broke all PSP sales records. It may not be quite as ground-breaking as San Andreas, but LCS offers another perfect slice of Grand Theft Auto gaming and is easily the equal of the other games in the series. Give me Liberty or give me death The game is set in Liberty City, last seen in Grand Theft Auto III (and visited briefly in San Andreas). You play Toni Cipriani, a hotheaded member of the Leone crime family freshly returned to the city after four years spent lying low for killing a rival gang boss. Having slid down the crime ladder in his absence, Toni must claw his way back into the favour of Don Salvatore Leone by doing jobs for a variety of shady characters all over town, ranging from a seedy strip club owner to his own disapproving mother.
If you've played a GTA game in the past these jobs will be familiar to you, taking in driving missions, hitman jobs, delivery assignments and a whole glorious spectrum of nefarious activities. The game retains the classic GTA third person perspective and simple control system, so even novices will be hurling themselves out of speeding cars and popping wheelies on motorbikes in no time. Combat is handled by a straightforward lock-on system, and there's a selection of firepower so comprehensive it would make Schwarzenegger blush.
Added to this is a selection of over 70 vehicles, including fire engines, ambulances, police vehicles, speedboats, motorbikes and lots more, each with their own unique speed and handling. Grand Theft Awesome Despite having its roots in handheld gaming, Liberty City Stories doesn't feel like it has been scaled back from any of the previous PS2 Grand Theft Auto outings. The visuals have been given a polish for the bigger screen, with added lighting effects and a beefed-up framerate and draw distance over its PSP counterpart. Audio-wise, sound effects and music are excellent, while the talented cast continues the Grand Theft Auto tradition of top-notch voice acting. While LCS may lack the finely detailed character customization of GTA: San Andreas, in many ways this is actually a bonus.
As enjoyable as building your character up in San Andreas was, the constant cycle of eating and working out became a chore after a while. LCS leaves you free to get on with the business of building your crime empire, without having to worry about going to pick up a salad and run 50 laps in the middle of a mission. Because of its handheld origins, LCS is all about pick up and play gaming - a style that suits Grand Theft Auto just fine.
Big city life Everything that makes the Grand Theft Auto series such fun to play is here in abundance. The city is huge and vibrant, teeming as it is with memorable non-player characters. The script is witty and, at times, laugh-out-loud funny - especially on the radio stations, which are packed with great music. The missions are varied and fun, and the story is compelling and exciting, packed with brilliant characters and unexpected plot twists. In other words, it has everything you could hope to find in a videogame. To cut a long story short, Liberty City Stories is a Grand Theft Auto game in the great tradition of Grand Theft Auto games, and full of controversial, amoral fun.
If you liked the previous games in the series you'll like this one too, and for a budget price you're not going to find a better source of criminal carnage on PlayStation 2.
